Dollu Kunitha is the most popular folk dance of Karnataka. This dance form is performed along with singing on the tunes of the drums. Performed by the men of the shepherd network known as the Kuruba people group, the dance is an offering to please the Beereshwara. Dollu – an instrument is hung to the ceiling by a string and is beaten to pay obeisance to the deity. The performers usually dance in a semi-circle to the beat controlled by the leader of the group.
